Tasos Zembylas has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Vienna. He has been the Professor for Cultural Institutions Studies at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts since 2003. In 2009 he was Visiting Professor at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Since 2021 he is member of the Artistic Research Center.
Zembylas is member of the Advisory Board of the Research Network Sociology of the ARTS (European sociological association) and founding member of the Research Network on Implicit Knowledge (Forschungsnetzwerk Implizites Wissen). His research specializations include the sociology of artistic practices, the institutional analysis of art worlds, and public cultural funding policies.
